When your Nerf battle is raging in the garden or around the house, you can pop inside this pop-up shelter, which is equipped with ammunition pockets and spy holes so you can keep an eye on your opponent.

The shelter also has a selection of targets, so your enemies will be occupying with shooting at them rather than you.

Priced around £24.99, and suitable for ages six and up, the Nerf Pop Up Combat Shelter is joined in the range by the Nerf Single Blockade and Nerf Double Blockade (around £9.99 and £14.99, respectively).

These simpler screens still offer protection from Nerf darts or jets of water and also include ammo pockets, and the entire rage can be combined to make an extended battle arena.

Joining the toy shooter arms race is this new range from Max Force Toys, firing paper pellets that splat on impact.

Joining the toy shooter arms race is this new range from Max Force Toys. Firing paper pellets that splat on impact (and wipe off easily, we are assured), the range consists of three weapons.

You can start out with the Max Force Blow Gun, which will accurately hit targets up to 35 feet away and comes with 60 pellets and a detachable barrel for around £9.99.

When things get a little more serious you can turn to the Max Force Maximiser 60, which boosts range to 60 feet, making it even harder for your enemies to escape.

An eight-round clip carries the pellets (you get 120 of them) for this rapid-firing sidearm, which is priced around £14.99.

Finally, when things have escalated out of control, the Max Force Shadow Hawk 100 is ready to be called into action. As the name suggests, this has a range of 100 feet, so no corner of the garden will be out of range.

Two eight-round cartridges are included so that you can reload quickly, while a bipod stand helps you take aim more effectively with your 120 pellets.

Suitable for ages eight and up, all of the Max Force shooters come with protective mission glasses.

Next time you take a stroll through a deep dark wood, perhaps you might like to take along your Gruffalo Catcher, priced around £12.99 from Rainbow Designs. If you see a bug, and the bug looks good, just swipe at it with the net and hopefully you’ll be able to capture it. The 30cm handle certainly adds a bit of reach to little arms.

Just one word of warning – don’t try to catch an actual Gruffalo in it. They don’t take too kindly to that sort of behaviour, and unless you have the cunning of the little mouse in Julia Donaldson’s classic book, you might find yourself falling victim to those ‘terrible tusks and terrible claws and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws’.

Pictures of this terrible (but actually strangely cute) monster decorate the outside of the Woodland Creature Cabin from Rainbow Designs too. This is a little house to accommodate any beasties that you find on your nature walk, and it’s priced around £19.99.

Measuring 20 x 13.5cm this cabin is made from painted wood and has a plastic mesh to keep the creatures contained (and alive!) while you study them.

The two new scooters from Zinc could be categorised as ‘scooting plus’.

The two new scooters from Zinc could be categorised as ‘scooting plus’. These are scooters with extras. The Zinc Attax – nicknamed ‘the shooter scooter’– is not only an easy-to-ride scooter for children aged five and over, it also has a foam-dart firing mechanism.

With a unit that can blast eight foam pieces up to five metres, the scooter enables children to have fun with all kinds of high-speed chase and tag games. Sound and light effects add to the entertainment and drama. Alternatively, the firing unit can be detached from the handlebars and carried around separately.

Priced around £49.99, the scooter can be folded up for easy transit, and features an adjustable handlebar and a rear brake. Users can be up to 50kg in weight.

If all that sounds a bit tame, you might want to up the ante and check out the Bedlam, the new Skatepark Pro 360 scooter. It’s about as tough as they come, being made from strong Chromium-molybdenum and aircraft reinforced material, with high-impact ALU core wheels, PU tyres and a reinforced aluminium deck and steel fork.

That all sounds like serious stuff, and the Bedlam is certainly equipped for some serious scooting. Users can choose to use the two-piece handlebar as a double handlebar or take it off and use it as a single steering bar while they ride the scooter with the skill and finesse for which it was intended.

The 360-degree rotating footplate and quick stop brake make it ideal for carrying out all kinds of tricks and stunts and it’s incredibly durable too. Eight-year-olds upwards (providing they weigh less than 100kg!) can take scooting to a whole new level, and it’s priced around £129.99.

New to the range is the Kurve, a unisex balance bike for kids between two and five years of age.

The Kurve is made from Birch plywood and decorated with non-toxic paints in a variety of colour schemes. You can opt for Tyre Print, Red & White Dotty, Pastel Dotty, Cherry, Flower, Fire and Police styles, or get patriotic with the Union Jack, French, USA, German and Italian Flag designs.

Each of these is priced around £59.99, but if you’re feeling especially daring (and you don’t mind tempting fate!) you can go for the stunning Evel Knievel design for around £69.99.

Each Kurve has a height-adjustable seat, with three positions to keep pace with a growing child as they develop their balance and coordination skills.

You know how important it is for your children to get fresh air and exercise, so you’re delighted when they go skating or scooting or cycling, and yet as soon as they head out, you worry about their safety.

In the ongoing battle between parents who want their children to wear helmets and children who feel they don’t look cool enough, Ozbozz has provided a new secret weapon.

The new Raskullz safety helmets do all the important work of protecting the noggins of your precious little people while also looking vibrant and cool. A lot of thought has gone into the designs (which include Shark, Unicorn, Mohican and Ladybug), meaning that children may actually want to be seen out and about sporting one of them.

Priced around £19.99 each, for ages five and up, the brightly-coloured helmets should tick all the boxes: fun, fashionable and safe.

The refreshingly straightforward name tells you much of what you need to know. The game is comprised of 10 wooden sticks and a board. Two or more players get ready to play by loading the sticks on the board.

One player is designated as the ‘seeker’, while the others are ‘hiders’. One hider stamps down on the board, scattering the sticks, and the hiders then scurry off to do just that. The seeker’s job is now to locate all 10 sticks, but if they find a hider while searching, it’s a race back to the board to see who gets there first and wins the game.

At any time, a pesky hider can burst from their hiding place, run to the board and stamp on the sticks, forcing the seeker to begin all over again.

The game, priced around £34.99, is recommended for ages five and up. It is also recommended to be played outdoors…

Marking the surge of interest in the iconic flag, Micro Scooters has produced a themed ride-on sporting the red, white and blue design.

The company’s popular EzyRoller dragster has been dressed up in Union Jack colours for children to make a patriotic statement as they whizz around. Propelled along by a ‘wiggle’ movement, the dragster has no need for chains or pedals, and has a low centre of gravity, making it safe and stable for children as young as four.

It’s easy to assemble, and can grow with your child up until around the age of 14, and it should last that long too as it is made from hard-wearing steel. Non-marking wheels mean it can be used indoors on a rainy day, and a special braking system keeps kids safe when getting up a high speed outdoors.

The Union Jack EzyRoller is priced around £84.95.
