Who says you can’t drive a Ferrari inside? The new Smart Control Ferrari Enzo, from Thumbs Up, brushes aside such petty rules by unleashing a scaled-down Enzo (1:50 scale, to be precise) that you control via an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Android device.

Plug the wireless Smart Link Control unit into the headphone socket of your gadget, download the free Driving App and a gorgeous Ferrari dashboard will appear on your screen.

Rev up the engine, tilt your device forwards to increase speed and turn it to negotiate corners and before you know it you’ll be racing around the kitchen like Felipe Massa would if he didn’t have a full-size F1 Ferrari to play with.

Dual racing channels mean you can race against a friend and the car itself features working headlights.

The Smart Control Ferrari Enzo is compatible with iPhones 3 & 4, iPod Touch, iPad 1 & 2 and Android devices and is priced around £29.99.

The POWERplus Mustang Dynamo Race Track, from By Nature, doesn’t need batteries or mains power for its energy, relying on a simple winding mechanism to create power.

The 3.8 metres of track can be configured in lots of different ways to create interesting new circuits, varying the fun every time you play.

Two controllers are also included, which are actually little hand generators. Rotating the hand generators makes the cars whizz around the track, and their wheels light up for added excitement.

The Mustang Dynamo Race Track is priced around £39.99 and is suitable for ages 10 and up.

WOW has looked back into the dim and distant past to get inspiration for this new release. Jurassic Jimmy harks back to a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and cavemen drove them around on trucks.

The removable caveman figure that comes with Jurassic Jimmy is named ‘Stig’ and he is taking good care of a couple of young dinosaurs named Bronty and Tricksy. They’re pretty easy to look after, as dinosaurs go, because they’re wipe clean and don’t require any batteries.

Either dinosaur can ‘hatch’ excitingly out of a giant dinosaur egg. This egg can be ferried around on the trailer, which attaches to the back of the truck magnetically.

Jurassic Jimmy is designed to appear primitive with wheels that look like big stones and a sort of dinosaur camouflage-type pattern on the sides. A smiling face on the truck transforms Jimmy into a character in his own right too.

Toddlers from 18 months upwards should be able to use the toy, and will be hard pressed to break it as WOW toys are all extremely durable. Jurassic Jimmy is priced around £16.99 and zooms around by the power of little hands, making a loud roaring noise from his friction motor as he goes (and hopefully scaring off any less friendly dinosaurs on the way).

Build this iconic ’60s Camper Van with a new kit from LEGO. With 1,332 pieces in the box, you have everything you need to recreate every last detail of the beloved Volkswagen vehicle.

LEGO builders aged 16 and over can instantly be transported back to the golden days of 1962 as brick by brick they lovingly put together this exact replica, with details such as the ‘V’ shape three-way colour split on the front of the van, an opening ‘splittie’ safari windscreen, the famous pop-up roof for easy camping, with a textile curtain around the sides, opening doors and even the curved roof and window frames which give it such a cuddly look.

The impressive detailing also includes vents and a roof rack. Pop open the back door to see an authentic-looking VW air-cooled flat four cylinder boxer engine.

Little LEGO people can sit in the front cabin on the bench seat and work the gear stick while sitting behind the angled dashboard and iconic spherical speedometer. There are plenty of home comforts installed in the back too, with a folding bench seat that turns into a bed, a fold-up table, a wardrobe and mirror and even a few decorations here and there.

LEGO designers have clearly had fun adding the ‘Make LEGO Models Not War’ T-shirt that you can see in the back, too!

The finished van measures 30cm long and 14cm high and the kit is priced around £79.99.

Grown-ups already have a tough time keeping the kids away from their gadgets, but the job is about to become even tougher as Spin Master and Disney have collaborated on a new line of toys designed to work with Apple’s iPad.

The new AppMATes are ‘Mobile Application Toys’, which come to life when used in conjunction with the free Cars 2 AppMATes app, available on the iTunes store. Once the app is loaded, the iPad becomes a high-tech virtual play mat for Lightning McQueen, Mater and others from the Cars movie franchise to play on.

Each AppMates car has built-in sensors that the iPad can recognise and respond to, enabling character-specific content on the screen. Kids can explore Radiator Springs with their vehicle of choice, tackle a range of missions or race on five different racetracks.

As well as Lightning and Mater you can also pick up Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell (two-car packs are priced around £20), while Francesco Bernoulli and Shu Todoroki will be available exclusively through the Apple Store and Apple Store online.

If you’re keen to see a demo, look here.

A basic chassis is accompanied by the pieces to make either the Kevin 11 Cruiser or Ben’s Mark 10, and you also get Kevin and Ben’s heads to complete the effect (which could make the ensuing crashes a bit gory).

Simply crash your vehicle into another car or any willing solid object and the pieces will fly off. Then you can put your car back together for more adventures.

Suitable for ages four and up, the Alien Crash Vehicle is priced around £12.99.

This 1:12 scale remote control Lightning McQueen, from Character, gives his fans, both young and old(er) alike, the chance to take control of the speedy vehicle.

Lightning McQueen is probably the most recognisable racecar in the world right now, as children (and their secretly excited parents) queue up to see the new Cars 2 film.

This 1:12 scale remote control Lightning McQueen, from Character, gives his fans, both young and old(er) alike, the chance to take control of the speedy vehicle. With a grand total of eleven AAs (not included), this car has some serious battery power behind it and can race at high speed. Lightning’s winning combination of speed and precision are evident here as he can negotiate the sharpest twists and turns of any race circuit.

With all the trademark details that make McQueen such a recognisable character, the car also has front and rear lights, full motion control, realistic sounds and a shaking function, and he can be enjoyed by children aged four and over.

He’s not a racecar, but the 1:16 scale Mater makes up for his lack of style with a wealth of fun and entertainment. With eight AA batteries on board, Mater’s motorised features include lights, sounds and even firing missiles.

He might look like a simple fellow, but underneath that hillbilly exterior is actually a deadly spy. Control Mater as he transforms in the face of enemies, and then takes off again at a speed previously unheard of in a pickup truck.

Mater and Lightning are both priced around £49.99.

Both of these characters, and other favourites such as Raoul, Finn McMissile, and Francesco are also available as smaller (1:24 scale) remote control vehicles, which take three AAA batteries and are priced around £29.99.

These vehicles feature full movement control and even a turbo speed function and are suitable for slightly younger children aged three and over.

Scaling down again, you can also purchase a Micro Radio Controlled version of Lightning, Finn, Francesco and Mater, priced around £14.99 each.

These zippy little cars still have full movement control and are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.

The rapid response vehicle is first on the scene to help with any number of scenarios, from cats stuck in trees to full on blazing fires.

Priced around £7.99, the shiny four-wheeled buggy can be pushed around by children aged 18 months and older. The dashing figure of fire fighter Kurt rides on the back of the buggy, alongside his faithful companion, a Dalmatian fire dog. His presence may not tempt those cats down from the trees, but with his nose in the air, he looks set to help sniff out anyone who may be trapped in that imaginary burning building.

As the buggy moves, a built-in mechanism makes the characters rock around in the back of the buggy, with no need for batteries.

Favourite characters, new characters and building block scenery combine to make a variety of different playset scenes from the new film. Joining the much-loved Lightning McQueen and Mater are a variety of equally delightful characters, sure to speedily find a place in the affections of youngsters.

The simplest set features the simplest character. Mater, bless him, is not always the brightest chap, but he is good and loyal and funny and the beaten-up tow truck often usurps shiny Lightning McQueen as a child’s favourite character.

The Agent Mater set is priced around £13.49 and features the little tow truck sporting a large cannon (which actually fires), along with LEGO DUPLO bricks decorated to look like targets.

With the film set around Lightning heading off abroad for the World Grand Prix, other sets have a bit of an international theme. Luigi’s Italian Place, priced around £20.99, contains bricks that form some typical Italian scenery. Set amidst this is an Italian garage, where the fastest tyre-changing duo, Luigi and Guido, are based.

Spin the globe and the cars find themselves heading off to Tokyo. Kids can act out scenes from the movie, or make up their own ones, with the Tokyo Racing set.

With a typical Japanese scene set by the themed bricks, McQueen is joined by new car Carla – a sweet but powerful Latin diva, in a set priced around £25.99.

British fans of the Cars gang will be delighted to see them rocking up in the UK in the new film. The Big Bentley playset features the old favourites, McQueen and Mater, with new star Finn McMissile in central London, alongside one of our most famous landmarks.

Priced around £40.99 the set includes a buildable Big Bentley scene, complete with winch, pull-up ramp and drive through.

Back in the racing world, the Pit Stop set is priced around £49.99 and contains all the bricks you need to build a Pit stop. Lightning McQueen, Guido, Francesco and Fillmore are on the scene and there are tyres to change, an open and close function and several accessories to complete the most complex set in the new range.

A Micro Scalextric set pits Lightning McQueen against British racer Nigel Gearsly in 1:64 scale. The track features enough twists and turns to keep young drivers on their toes and includes a number of backdrops recreating scenes from the film.

Priced around £54.99, the set is suitable for ages three and up.

More seasoned racers can opt for the 1:32 scale Scalextric Start set, where McQueen goes wheel-to-wheel with Francesco Bernoulli.

You can lay the track out in nine different ways (and you can always make up more layouts of your own design). The set is priced around £99.99, for ages five and up.

Lightning McQueen and Francesco Bernoulli are also available as individual cars, priced around £31.99 each, to add to an existing layout.
