It's pretty universally accepted that all kids want their own flying toys, but normally you have to wait until you're well into your school career and maybe even your teens before you can get your hand on one. That's why we were astonished when we saw this entry from Little Tikes, and intrigued to see if it would actually work.
The helicopter is a little smaller than it looks in the picture here - which is a good thing, because we weren't sure if it would get off the ground. It certainly did, and is actually remarkably steady when it flies. Quite young children can operate this (it's best to have a big space to work in) and we loved how chunky the control and helicopter are.
This has 'auto-hover technology' - fairly self explanatory but definitely helps because anyone who's ever flown a heli knows that that's the difficult bit.
Importantly, this is really robust and so far despite many, many (many!) crashes it has survived completely unscathed. Be a bit careful of children flying it into one another as understandably whirring bits do cause alarm to small people but apart from that we really recommend this as the coolest toy out there for pre-schoolers.
What our reviewers said: "Our little boy loves this and plays with it every day", "It's really strong and solid, thankfully!"

Kids loved this so much. Great for role play, the toolbox comes with a drill that does a nice realistic 'whirring' thing when you press it plus various other tools like hammer and spanner. There are other bits and bobs that all go into the toolbox, and on the side of the toolbox there are light-up tool buttons that introduce facts and colours. It's so nice and compact and has a great price point.
