Conclusion: A brilliant, attention-grabbing scooter that kids find irresistible.

Razor is already an established name in the scooter world, and it’s about to get even more attention thanks to its eye-catching, head-turning Spark Scooter.

The concept couldn’t be simpler. Take a regular scooter and add a mechanism to make sparks shoot out of the back while moving along. The Spark Bar is simple, easy to use and really does add a wow factor.

First things first, though – this wouldn’t mean much if the scooter itself was inferior. In fact is far from that. It is tough and durable, with 125mm urethane wheels and ‘aircraft-grade’ aluminium T-tube and deck.

The handlebar can be adjusted and the whole thing folds down for easy carrying and storage. There’s also a break over the back wheel for when you’re going a little too fast. This presents the only difficulty with the scooter – kids often press down on the break by mistake when aiming for the Spark Bar. It only takes a little practice for this wrinkle to be ironed out, however, and then it’s on with the show.

The Spark Bar produces a healthy amount of sparks (the harder you press, the more sparks you get, but the faster you slow the scooter down). Some of the sparks stay glowing for a few seconds after the scooter has moved on, giving watching children something to gaze at in awe.

It must be said that the amount of sparks dips quite quickly from the initial level as the cartridge wears down, but it then finds a level that remains constant for some time. Two weeks into our testing period there was still a pleasing number of sparks being generated. You also get a spare spark cartridge included and extras can be bought for around £12.99 a pair.

At around £20 more than Razor’s most basic model, but cheaper than some of the higher-end options, the Spark Scooter offers good value for money, and children will certainly enjoy being the centre of attention in the park and playground.
