Conclusion: A beautiful piece of craftsmanship that kids love playing with.

Kiddimoto’s line of balance bikes encourages children to get mobile without the aid of stabilisers. The fact that they are so beautifully designed is a bonus, and one of the latest additions, the Brit Pop Scooter, is perhaps the most beautiful of all.

As well as triggering Quadrophenia flashbacks in adults of a certain age, the Brit Pop Scooter has youngsters scrambling to climb on and it draws attention wherever you go.

Stabilisers really only teach kids to rely on stabilisers, and removing them can often result in a somewhat fraught experience. With the Brit Pop Scooter, a child is learning balance right from the start, yet feels secure because it’s so easy to stick a foot out to steady the bike if it starts to topple – and when gliding along (especially downhill) our testers found it easy to put their feet up on the footboard in true scooter style and enjoy the ride.

Quality tyres give a smooth ride, the handlebars are well padded and putting the scooter together in the first place is easy.

The build quality is very solid and you get the impression that this ride-on will survive to be passed down to younger siblings or cousins. The only downside of this sturdiness is that the scooter is quite heavy, which can cause problems for very young children – and as any parent knows, you often end up having to carry a bike or scooter on the way home from the park.

We would also comment that the stated age range seems a little broad, mainly because the scooter works best with short legs. This doesn’t prevent the Brit Pop Scooter from being a resounding hit with youngsters and a genuine aid to learning to ride.
