Coming soon: Shoot toys?
by David Smith
A new line of licensed products from Shoot will soon be on the way after CPLG signed up to represent licensing and merchandising rights for the iconic football magazine.
Launched in 1969, Shoot, dubbed ‘The voice of football’, ceased publication last year but has continued to survive in other forms. The 2009 Shoot Annual sold more than 200,000 copies and a new website, www.shoot.co.uk, has taken the magazine into new territory.
Pedigree Books has also launched a retro annual covering the 40 years of the magazine, but it’s the possibility of licensed collectibles and toys that has us most interested.
“Football is the world’s number one sport, it spans all demographics and fans are incredibly loyal,” commented CPLG’s Vickie O’Malley. “Shoot is a unique property that has been brought bang up-to-date in its appeal whilst remaining dear to those who remember it from their younger days. Having the chance to fulfil a very real desire amongst adults and kids for Shoot licensed products is a tremendous opportunity for CPLG.”
