LeapFrog’s junior choice
by David Smith
New from LeapFrog is the Tag Junior, a new version of the Tag reading system specially designed for younger book lovers.
The Tag Junior system works on the same concept as the original, with children using a reading device (the Tag Junior Book Pal) to activate sound effects and words from the specially printed pages.
Where the original Tag uses a pen-like reader, the Book Pal is chunky (making it easy for small hands to grip) and has a friendly frog-like face.
Each book in the Tag Junior range introduces a different skill, with colours, the alphabet and counting all on the curriculum.
Children can pick out individual words, while touching the Book Pal to a character on the page will make that character speak. There are also questions and activities to encourage exploration.
Seven titles are available – Pooh Loves You, ABC Animal Orchestra, Curious George Colour Fun, 1-2-3 Dora!, Backyardigans Opposites, Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See? and Dr. Seuss’s Mr Brown Can Moo! Can You? – and the Tag Junior comes with a book entitled If I Were to get things started.
With the ability to store the information for up to five books, the Tag Junior is aimed at children between two and four and is priced around £29.99, with books priced around £9.99 each.
