Tooth fairy flies off with ‘Toy of the Future’ award

Argos Toy of the futureFive-year-old Aine Gallagher has won the Argos ‘Toy of the Future’ competition, beating the nine other finalists to scoop the top prize with her Tooth Fairy Doll.

The doll has a small pocket for holding lost teeth and is intended to go under a child’s pillow, waiting for the real tooth fairy to show up. Aine, from Northern Ireland, was inspired to create the doll when she parted company with one of her own teeth and heard the tooth fairy story for the first time.

Aine will now see her doll made into a real toy, to be sold at Argos in time for Christmas 2009 (and she also pockets £500 worth of Argos vouchers).

Tooth Fairy Doll“We would like to send our congratulations to Aine for having the brilliant idea of the Tooth Fairy Doll,” said Graham Barnes, Trading Director for toys at Argos. “The tooth fairy is an important part of the early childhood experience. Even grown-ups can remember losing their first tooth and the magic of finding money under their pillow.”

Tina Gallagher, Aine’s mum, said: “We are delighted Aine has won the competition and are so proud of her. She is very excited about the idea of the Tooth Fairy Doll coming to life. The response we have received from friends and family has been amazing and it’s great for Aine to have this kind of opportunity.”

  1. Hi,

I'm happy for aine that she is getting her idea into production but surely argos are ripping her off there, £500 is not a drop in the ocean to what they look to make from this toy, i think they should be starting a trust fund for aine and a good percentage of the profit should be going to her, otherwise it's argos ripping a kid off in my mind, ok it was a competition but a very marketable idea like that there should be talk of trust funds with the profits.

    cheers
