On a grand scale

Schleich AllosaurusIf you can feel a rumbling in the ground, it must be the new Replica Saurus dinosaurs from Schleich – these prehistoric monsters are huge.

We’ll kick things off with the decidedly nasty looking Allosaurus. It is usually overlooked in the predator stakes by the more famous Tyrannosaurus rex (the golden boy already has two Replica Saurus models to his credit), but Allosaurus was no slouch and had much stronger arms than the T.rex.

The Schleich model is in 1:40 scale and stands 13cm high. It is priced around £7.70.

Schleich Brachiosaurus and SpinosaurusThe Spinosaurus is a dinosaur who’s popularity increased dramatically after landing a starring role in The Lost World: Jurassic Park. It stands 17cm high and is priced around £11, but getting top billing is the mighty Brachiosaurus. This huge model is a foot high even at 1:40 scale and is priced around £16.50.

The entire range has been sculpted with the assistance of the Natural History Museum of the Humboldt-University Berlin and each model comes with a booklet and a human figurine to scale – just to prove how puny we are.
