Rocking Horse Shop in the running

The Rocking Horse Shop, from Fangfoss, York, will be flying the flag for traditional toys at the British Small Business Champions awards, taking place in Liverpool tomorrow.

The Rocking Horse Shop, established in 1976, will be competing with five other businesses in the Northern Area stage.

“Simple beautiful and tireless, the rocking horse is the world’s finest plaything and beats the pants off all the electronic competition,” said owner Anthony Dew. “For over 30 years we’ve designed and made new ones, restored old ones, and now publish over seventeen different plans with illustrated instructions for home workers, plus timber kits, tools and accessories, everything from glass eyes to horse hair tails.

“If it’s to do with rocking horses, we do it!”

The competition, organised by the Federation of Small Businesses, brings a prize of £1,000 to the winners, as well the opportunity to progress to the finals, where a prize of £10,000 is up for grabs.
